North Dakotaʼs LIFT Program Awards $1 Million Loan to Trilogy LLC for Oil and Gas Innovation

The North Dakota Department of Commerce announced that the Legacy Investment for Technology LIFT) program has awarded a $1 million loan to Trilogy LLC, a North Dakota-based company that developed the Sand Titan, a high-performance sand separator for the oil and gas industry.

“The LIFT program is a vital resource for fostering innovation and supporting North Dakotaʼs oil
and gas industry,” said Shayden Akason, Commerce Economic Development & Finance Deputy Director and Head of Investments and Innovation. “This funding highlights our commitment to supporting North Dakota businesses that drive economic impact in our core industries and create lasting impact across the state.”

The LIFT program is an innovation loan fund designed to support technology advancement by
providing financing for the commercialization of intellectual property within the state. Loan funds
are available to increase capacity and to leverage state, federal, and private sources of funding.
Since its inception, the program has awarded more than $45 million across 72 projects, with an
average award of approximately $635,000. These investments spread across sectors including
health care, agriculture technology, energy, and advanced computing, demonstrating LIFTʼs
broad impact on North Dakotaʼs innovation economy.

The program is managed in partnership with the Bank of North Dakota and offers attractive loan
terms including 0% interest for the first three years, 2% interest for the next two years, followed
by the Bank of North Dakotaʼs standard loan rates thereafter. The program is open to companies
working in a variety of sectors such as advanced computing, agriculture technology,
autonomous and unmanned vehicle technologies, energy, health care, value-added agriculture
and energy, along with other industries identified by the LIFT committee to diversify the stateʼs
economy.

Trilogy LLCʼs Sand Titan is targeted at improving efficiency and performance in the oil and gas
sector, a core industry for North Dakotaʼs economy. This loan will help the company scale
operations and accelerate commercialization of their innovation.
