UM College of Business Earns Top National Ranking

October 22, 2026

MISSOULA, Mont.—The University of Montana College of Business ranks among the top 15% of public undergraduate business programs nationwide, according to the 2027 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges Rankings.

The college tied for No. 89 among undergraduate business programs at public universities and No. 149 among all public and private institutions. The ranking also places UM first among Big Sky Conference universities.

“This ranking reflects what our faculty, staff and students accomplish every day,” said Suzanne Tilleman, the Sprunk and Burnham Endowed Dean of the UM College of Business. “Being recognized among the top public business programs in the country, and first in the Big Sky Conference, shows that a UM business education stands up against the best in the nation.”

The recognition comes as the college reports five consecutive years of enrollment growth, reflecting increased student interest in its undergraduate programs.

Tilleman said the ranking demonstrates that Montana students can pursue a nationally recognized business education without leaving the state.

“Montana students do not need to leave the state to earn a nationally recognized business degree, and out-of-state students are finding that Missoula offers both quality and a place they want to live,” she said.

The college reports that 94% of its graduates are employed or enrolled in graduate school within six months of graduation.

UM offers eight undergraduate business majors, including accounting, business management, finance, marketing, international business, management information systems, cybersecurity, and entertainment, events and sports management.

The cybersecurity and entertainment, events and sports management programs were introduced within the past two years as the college expanded its academic offerings.

The cybersecurity program combines technical training with business management principles, while the entertainment, events and sports management major focuses on business operations and professional experience in those industries.

Students also have access to career advising, student organizations and experiential learning opportunities intended to provide practical experience before graduation.
