Tim Sheehy Sworn in as U.S. Senator, Marks Historic Day for Montana

January 4, 2025

In a moment hailed as historic for Montana, Tim Sheehy was officially sworn in as the state’s newest U.S. Senator. Senator Steve Daines, who escorted Sheehy to the Senate floor for the ceremony, celebrated the occasion with a statement emphasizing their shared priorities and commitment to advancing a conservative agenda.

“It is an honor to be part of this historic day for Montana,” said Daines. “On Day One, Senator Sheehy and I will get to work enacting President Trump’s agenda—securing the border, preventing a massive tax hike, and strengthening our national security. Given the tragic events in New Orleans and Las Vegas this week, there is no higher priority than confirming the president’s national security team and ensuring our country’s safety.”

Sheehy, a Bozeman businessman and former Navy SEAL, won one of the nation’s most closely watched Senate races, defeating incumbent Democratic Senator Jon Tester. His victory marks a significant political shift in Montana and adds a strong conservative voice to the Senate.

In a statement following his swearing-in, Sheehy expressed gratitude and outlined his vision for the state and the nation.

“It’s a new day in America, and I am honored to serve not only as your senator but also as a steward of Montana and America’s bright future. Now, it’s time to get to work,” Sheehy wrote. “Our mission is simple: make life more prosperous, safe, and affordable for the people of Montana by returning competence and common sense to our government. Together, we must revive the American Dream for the next generation and take tangible, incremental actions every day that make progress toward our ultimate goal of Making America Great Again.”

Sheehy, serving in his first elected office, has been assigned to several key Senate committees, including the Senate Armed Services Committee, the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, and the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee. These appointments reflect his military background and focus on issues central to Montana.

The swearing-in signals a new chapter for Montana’s representation in Congress, with Sheehy and Daines pledging to work closely together to advance policies they believe will benefit the state and the nation.
