The South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation is inviting employers, educators and workforce partners to a free virtual session next week aimed at promoting registered apprenticeship programs as a tool for addressing persistent talent pipeline challenges.
The online event, part of a broader Apprenticeship Knowledge Series timed to coincide with National Apprenticeship Week, is scheduled for Thursday, April 16, at 11:30 a.m. Central Time via Microsoft Teams.
Representatives from the state’s Start Today SD initiative will lead the session, which will focus on how registered apprenticeship programs can help employers develop workers while expanding career opportunities for individuals. Organizers say the session will also offer practical guidance on recognizing apprentices, promoting existing programs and participating in upcoming statewide activities, including an Apprenticeship Summit and a graduate recognition event.
Registered apprenticeships, which combine on-the-job training with related technical instruction, have gained renewed attention from state governments and employers in recent years as labor shortages have persisted across industries including construction, health care and advanced manufacturing.
The event is open to current apprenticeship sponsors, prospective employer partners, community organizations and education institutions. Registration information is available through the Department of Labor and Regulation.
