Speaker Johnson Slams Democrats Over Impeachment Talk

April 11, 2026

House Speaker Mike Johnson issued a sharp rebuke Thursday of congressional Democrats following reports that party leadership is briefing members on the use of the 25th Amendment and amid calls from more than 80 Democratic lawmakers for the impeachment and removal of President Donald Trump.

In a statement, Johnson dismissed the efforts as politically motivated and disconnected from the concerns of ordinary Americans, framing the push as a continuation of what he called a years-long Democratic fixation on removing Trump from office.

“Congressional Democrats have no message, no vision, and no leadership, and they are offering nothing to the American people except an irrational hatred of President Donald Trump,” Johnson said.

The statement came in the wake of a reported U.S. military operation that the administration says destroyed Iran’s military and defense infrastructure, following which Trump announced a ceasefire agreement with Tehran. Johnson said Democrats should be celebrating the outcome alongside what he described as freedom-loving people around the world, rather than pursuing impeachment.

Johnson pointed to Democratic approval ratings — which he described as the lowest in the history of public polling — as evidence that the party’s focus on Trump removal is backfiring politically. He argued that Democratic efforts to invalidate the results of the 2024 election, in which Trump won a majority of voters, would further damage the party heading into the midterm elections.

“The midterm election will be a contrast between common sense and crazy, and the Democrats are demonstrating once again their deranged priorities,” Johnson said.

The Speaker also took aim at Democrats over their handling of questions about former President Joe Biden’s fitness for office, arguing that those now invoking the 25th Amendment against Trump had remained silent about Biden’s capacity to serve during his presidency.

Democratic leadership has not publicly confirmed the substance of its internal briefings on the 25th Amendment. The constitutional provision allows for the removal of a president who is unable to discharge the duties of the office, requiring action by the vice president and a majority of the cabinet.
