Montana’s Science Olympiad Champions to Compete at Nationals

March 7, 2025

Corvallis Middle School and Hamilton High School are heading to the national Science Olympiad competition after claiming victory at Montana’s state tournament on Tuesday, March 4, at Montana State University. The national event will be held at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln on May 23-24, where students will have the chance to win awards and cash scholarships.

The 41st annual Montana Science Olympiad saw more than 70 middle and high school teams competing in a variety of events, including astronomy, meteorology, chemistry, and engineering challenges. Participants tested their skills with vehicles, windmills, and towers, while also visiting MSU labs and classrooms to explore topics ranging from immersive artificial intelligence to plant research.

Over 350 medals and certificates were awarded to winners in individual events. Since its inception in 1985, the state tournament has been hosted at MSU by the Science Math Resource Center in the Department of Education. The Science Olympiad is one of the largest science, technology, engineering, and math competitions in the country, with more than 6,300 teams competing annually across all 50 states.
