Idaho DHW Launches Rural Health Transformation Funding

June 18, 2026

The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare has released its first round of funding opportunity overviews under the Rural Health Transformation Program, marking a significant step forward in the state’s effort to reshape healthcare delivery in underserved communities across Idaho.

The funding opportunity overviews are designed to give stakeholders an early look at the expected requirements and structure of upcoming solicitations and subgrants tied to Year 1 of the program. Officials noted that the materials remain subject to change as the program continues to take shape.

In a new development accompanying the release, the department announced it will pursue a cooperative contract procurement pathway specifically for a Project Management Support contract. The agency said the approach supports compliance with Idaho procurement rules and statutes while giving the department efficient access to competitively sourced goods and services.

The Rural Health Transformation Program represents one of the state’s most ambitious efforts in recent years to address persistent gaps in rural healthcare access, where residents often face longer travel times, physician shortages, and limited specialty care options. Year 1 funding opportunities are expected to lay the groundwork for broader systemic changes to come under the multi-year initiative.

Stakeholders and prospective applicants are encouraged to review the funding opportunity overviews through the Department of Health and Welfare’s public documents portal and to monitor for updates as formal solicitations are finalized.
