Gov. Little Signs Medicaid Reform and Cost Containment Act

March 22, 2025

Governor Brad Little has signed House Bill 345, the Medicaid Reform and Cost Containment Act, reinforcing Idaho’s commitment to balancing healthcare access with fiscal responsibility.

“We want Idahoans to become as self-sufficient as possible,” said Gov. Little during the bill signing. “House Bill 345 reinforces that goal while reasonably reeling in Medicaid spending so taxpayers are not overly burdened by this program in the outyears.”

The legislation aims to streamline Medicaid spending while maintaining coverage for eligible recipients. Gov. Little emphasized that H.B. 345 is a significant improvement over previous proposals that sought to reverse the 2018 voter-approved Medicaid expansion.

“The voters spoke loudly in 2018 with their votes, and as elected leaders, we must continue to respect that,” Little said. “I am pleased House Bill 345 improves the Medicaid program without rejecting the will of the voters on Medicaid expansion.”

Joined by bill sponsors and lawmakers, Gov. Little signed the bill in his office, highlighting its commitment to making Idaho’s Medicaid program sustainable and efficient. The bill’s statement of purpose underscores the importance of preventing unnecessary dependency on government services while ensuring high-quality care for those in need.
