Daines, Sheehy Applaud Senate Confirmation of William Mercer as Federal Judge for Montana

October 25, 2025

U.S. Senators Steve Daines and Tim Sheehy released a joint statement praising the Senate’s confirmation of William Mercer to serve as U.S. District Judge for the District of Montana.

“We congratulate William Mercer on his long-awaited confirmation to serve as U.S. District Judge for Montana,” the senators said. “Bill will have a lasting impact on both our state and the nation, and his experience at the U.S. Department of Justice, as U.S. Attorney for Montana, and as a state legislator have uniquely prepared him for this role. We are confident Bill will continue to zealously defend the rule of law and the original interpretation of the Constitution as he serves the people of Montana and the nation.”

Mercer’s career spans decades of public service. He previously served as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Montana, where he oversaw federal prosecutions and law enforcement initiatives across the state. Prior to that, he worked in the U.S. Department of Justice, gaining experience in federal litigation and policy matters. Mercer also served as a state legislator in Montana, giving him a deep understanding of state law and the concerns of local communities.
