Montana Knife Company Opens New Missoula Facility

Montana Knife Company has opened a new 51,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Missoula, marking a major expansion for the fast-growing knife maker and underscoring its commitment to American-based production and job creation.

The new headquarters represents the company’s third phase of growth since its founding in 2020 and significantly increases its production capacity while allowing the company to maintain its focus on in-house manufacturing.

Founded by Josh Smith, the company began as a small operation in a garage in rural Montana. Smith, a former lineman, built the business around a focus on durability, function, and craftsmanship—principles that continue to define the brand as it scales.

The expanded facility is designed to support growing demand across hunting, outdoor, and everyday-carry markets. Company leaders say the space will allow for workforce expansion, investment in advanced manufacturing, and continued production of knives built entirely in the United States.

Unlike many manufacturers that outsource production, Montana Knife Company has kept its operations domestic, a strategy executives say ensures quality control and supports American workers.

“American manufacturing isn’t just part of our story, it is the story,” said Brandon Horoho, the company’s chief marketing officer. “This facility is proof that you can scale a business while staying true to those values.”

The company said each product is built with long-term durability in mind, emphasizing what it describes as “heirloom-quality” craftsmanship backed by its Generations Promise.

The new facility is also expected to create additional skilled manufacturing jobs in the Missoula area, contributing to the region’s growing industrial base.

To mark the opening, the company will host a public grand opening event on April 11 at its new location on Robbins Road, offering tours of the facility along with access to its factory store and an on-site coffee shop operated in partnership with Black Rifle Coffee Company.

Smith said the expansion reflects both the company’s growth and its long-term vision.

“We started in a garage with grit and a belief that we could build something better,” he said. “This facility is a testament to that belief. And we’re just getting started.”
