Trump Signals Extension of TikTok Divestment Deadline

President Donald Trump announced he may extend the June 19 deadline for ByteDance, the China-based parent company of TikTok, to sell the popular short-video app’s U.S. assets. The statement came during an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press with Kristen Welker, recorded Friday at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate and set to air nationwide on Sunday.
“I would … I’d like to see it done,” Trump said, indicating flexibility on the deadline if no deal is reached. TikTok, used by 170 million Americans, faces the divestment order due to national security concerns over its Chinese ownership.
The potential extension marks a shift in Trump’s approach to the app, which has been under scrutiny for its data privacy practices. Further details on the timeline or conditions for an extension were not provided in the interview.
