Today, Representative Rosendale introduced the Health Freedom and Flexibility Act. This bill empowers Americans to make their own decisions on how they spend their hard-earned dollars on healthcare.
Thirty-million Americans, 80,000 of them Montanans, already utilize a health savings account (HSA), which allows them to save pre-tax dollars in a personal, portable account to use toward health expenses.
Unfortunately, current rules have restricted widespread HSA adoption by requiring account holders to also carry a high-deductible health insurance plan. This is unacceptable and unfair to millions of Americans who want to utilize this great healthcare option.
“It is a priority of mine to ensure Americans have an abundance of healthcare options that fit their needs. This bill gets rid of unnecessary restrictions and enables Americans to make healthcare decisions that work best for them,” Representative Rosendale said.
Grover Norquist, President of Americans for Tax Reform said, “Congressman Rosendale’s Health Freedom and Flexibility Act implements a set of commonsense reforms that will expand tax-advantaged Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). Not only will these proposals increase healthcare choice and access for millions of Americans across the country, they will also cut taxes for middle class families and individuals. HSAs already help 30 million American families pay for their healthcare expenses. They should be expanded to all Americans.”
Americans for Prosperity said, “AFP commends Rep. Rosendale for introducing The Health Freedom and Flexibility Act, legislation that would reduce health care costs and empower patients by expanding access to tax-free Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). By putting patients in control of their health care dollars, we can give Americans more options and make quality health care more affordable.”
Bob Calstrom, President of AMAC Action said, “This legislation puts patients first and empowers them with more personal control over their healthcare. Patients will be able to tailor their care to suit their individual needs and those of their families.”
“80,000 Montanans use Health Savings Accounts, and they would all benefit from having more control over their healthcare decisions,” said Kendall Cotton, President and CEO of the Montana-based Frontier Institute. “The Frontier Institute applauds Congressman Rosendale for taking steps to expand Health Savings Accounts and give Montana patients more options for accessing healthcare.”
FreedomWorks Director of Policy Sarah Anderson said, “Health savings accounts are a critical way to both empower patients and bend the cost curve of healthcare. As cost and accessibility remain top of mind for so many Americans in healthcare, it is encouraging to see leaders like Representative Rosendale seek to rightly put patients back in charge of their care.”
