Governor Gianforte Launches Fourth Annual Youth Hunting Story Contest

September 13, 2025

Governor Greg Gianforte announced today the opening of the fourth annual Governor’s Youth Hunting Story Contest, inviting Montana youth and apprentice hunters ages 10 to 17 to share their hunting experiences.

“For the past three years, young hunters across Montana have shared incredible stories that celebrate our hunting heritage and love of the outdoors,” Gov. Gianforte said. “As this year’s contest opens, I encourage all youth and apprentice hunters to take part and share their story.”

Participants must be Montana residents and licensed hunters or apprentice hunters. Submissions may include any legal game, furbearer, or bird harvested in Montana and must include a story of no more than 500 words and a photo from the hunt.

The governor will select 10 winners—five in the 10–13 age group and five in the 14–17 age group—who will be invited to the Capitol in January to receive prizes and celebrate with the governor.

The deadline to enter is Tuesday, December 2, 2025. More information and submission details are available at youthhunting.mt.gov.
