Gov. Larry Rhoden has appointed Chad Callahan as a circuit judge in the Fourth Circuit, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of Mike Day.
Rhoden praised Callahan’s integrity and professionalism, saying he is confident the judge will uphold the rule of law, treat everyone fairly in the courtroom, and serve the state well.
Callahan currently serves as a magistrate judge in the Fourth Circuit. He previously worked in private practice and later as a public defender in Pennington County. From 2013 to 2017, he served as an assistant attorney general under Marty Jackley.
Originally from Johnstown, Callahan earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in 1994 and a law degree from Ohio Northern University in 1998.
Callahan said he was honored by the appointment and thanked the governor for the opportunity. He also recognized Day’s years of service, noting he had served the Fourth Circuit as an attorney since 1983 and as a circuit judge for the past 13 years.
Callahan and his wife live in Black Hawk and have three children.
