Former State Employee Sentenced for Forging Own Medical Marijuana Card

September 14, 2025

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley announced Tuesday that a former state Department of Health employee has been sentenced for falsifying her own medical marijuana card.

Alexandra Feiner, 24, of Pierre, pleaded guilty to one felony count of offering a false or forged instrument for filing, registering, or recording. She was sentenced in Hughes County Circuit Court to two years in prison, with the sentence suspended, placed on probation for two years, and fined $500.

Feiner was accused of forging a medical marijuana card in March 2024 to bypass the required medical provider certification and fee.

“There are 14,000 state government employees in South Dakota and the overwhelming majority work hard for South Dakota,” Attorney General Jackley said. “The behavior of one should not reflect poorly on the majority.”

The Department of Health cooperated with the investigation, which was conducted by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation. The Attorney General’s Office prosecuted the case.
