U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) has introduced the “Unborn Child Support Act”, a bill aimed at recognizing the humanity of unborn children and allowing expectant mothers to receive child support payments during pregnancy.
“Caring for a child starts long before birth, and Montana moms need access to critical child support while they’re pregnant,” Daines said. “By supporting expecting mothers, we recognize the humanity of an unborn baby and ensure Montanans have the resources they need to choose life.”
The Unborn Child Support Act would:
- Allow pregnant women to opt-in for prenatal child support payments through the court system.
- Require judges to consult with mothers on payment plans.
- Give mothers discretion over whether payments should be retroactive.
- Ensure paternity tests are conducted only with maternal consent and not if they pose a risk to the child.
The bill is backed by several pro-life organizations, including: March for Life Action, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, Concerned Women for America, Students for Life Action, National Right to Life, Family Research Council, and CatholicVote.
