UM Greets New Students at Aug. 18 Move-In Day

August 13, 2025

The University of Montana will officially welcome the class of 2029 to campus on Monday, Aug. 18.

Members of the media are invited to cover one of the most busy and emotional days of the school year, as students from across the country arrive to begin their academic journey at UM.

Students will arrive for the fall semester at 8 a.m. and continue their move in through 5 p.m. Incoming students will receive assistance during their move from UM employees, upper-class student volunteers and members of the community.

Media interested in covering the event and speaking to arriving students and their parents can reach out to UM Director of Strategic Communications Dave Kuntz for assistance.

Once students finalize their move in on Aug. 18, first-year student orientation will begin. This weeklong effort, known as the Big Sky Experience, is an innovative welcome for new Grizzlies. Rather than a traditional orientation effort, the Big Sky Experience is an interactive orientation that prioritizes peer engagement and community support.

UM’s first day of class for all students is Monday, Aug. 25.

Additional information regarding UM’s move-in day – including parking information – is available online.
