Twin Falls to Celebrate 50th Anniversary of Evel Knievel’s Snake River Gorge Jump

August 31, 2024

Twin Falls is gearing up for a major celebration this Sunday, September 1, marking the 50th anniversary of Evel Knievel’s legendary attempt to jump the Snake River Gorge using a steam-powered rocket.

The festivities will kick off at 10 AM with a special tribute by local daredevil Kyle Miller. Miller will execute a dramatic motorcycle base jump off the rim of the Snake River Canyon, honoring Knievel’s historic jump from five decades ago. Knievel’s attempt, which nearly succeeded, ended with his parachute deploying prematurely, causing him to land on the far bank of the river with only minor injuries.

Spectators can park in the trailhead parking lot located at the corner of Eastland Drive and Pole Line Road. The prime viewing area for Miller’s jump will be along the canyon rim trail. Attendees can reach this spot by walking a short 200 yards west from the parking lot, where they will have an excellent vantage point of the jump and the iconic dirt ramp used by Knievel.

Additional events include a motorcycle parade, with the lineup for the ride across the bridge starting at 11 AM. The parade will commence at noon, concluding with a celebration at Koto Brewery in downtown Twin Falls.
