Trump’s Job Approval Hits 53%

June 17, 2025

A Rasmussen poll conducted June 8-12, 2025, found that 53% of voters approve of former President Donald Trump’s job performance, reflecting robust support across racial groups. Notably, 54% of Black voters, 53% of Hispanic voters, and 53% of White voters expressed approval, a rare instance where a Republican president’s support among Black voters slightly exceeds that of White voters. The poll also highlighted a gender divide, with 59% of men approving compared to 49% of women.
The results come during a tumultuous period, as Trump faced intense criticism from Democrats and media outlets over his administration’s deportation efforts in Los Angeles, which coincided with the polling (June 9-12). Critics argued the deportations disrupted communities, while supporters, including some in working-class neighborhoods, credited Trump for addressing concerns about crime, wage suppression, and housing costs linked to illegal immigration. These issues disproportionately affect lower-income areas, where many Black and Hispanic residents live.
The same week saw violent protests in Los Angeles, which some Democrats attributed to Trump’s policies, though others pointed to inflammatory rhetoric from local leaders as a catalyst. The unrest was brought under control after Trump federalized the National Guard and deployed U.S. Marines, a move that polarized public opinion.
The poll suggests a shifting political dynamic. While Democrats have historically relied on strong support from minority voters, their focus on progressive policies may be straining that coalition. Conversely, Trump’s appeal appears to resonate with voters concerned about economic and safety issues, though his approach risks alienating others. The Rasmussen findings indicate a complex electorate, with Trump maintaining a broad base despite ongoing controversies.
