Senator Daines Leads Introduction of Bills to Boost U.S. Energy and Support Rural Communities

U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) has introduced two key pieces of legislation aimed at promoting American energy independence, strengthening the nation’s energy sector, and supporting rural communities.

The “Supporting Made in America Energy Act” seeks to bolster oil and gas development by requiring annual onshore lease sales in top oil-producing states, as well as offshore lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska’s Cook Inlet. The bill aims to increase energy production while maintaining U.S. energy dominance globally.

The “Restoring State Mineral Revenues Act” targets the 2 percent administration fee on federal oil and gas royalty payments to local communities, ensuring a fifty-fifty revenue split. This would significantly increase funds available to rural communities, benefiting local infrastructure, schools, and more.

“These bills will create Montana jobs, boost our economy, and protect national security,” Daines said. “Now that we have a President who supports our energy industry, it’s time to unleash American energy.”

Daines was joined by Senators Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), Jim Risch (R-Idaho), Bill Cassidy (R-La.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Tim Sheehy (R-Mont.), Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), John Curtis (R-Utah), John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), and John Hoeven (R-N.D.) in introducing the bills.
