Public Comment Open for Draft Idaho Mountain Goat Management Plan Through June 8

May 24, 2025

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking public input on its draft Mountain Goat Management Plan for 2025–2030, with the comment period open through June 8.

Hunters, wildlife advocates, and other interested individuals are encouraged to review the draft plan and share their level of support—whether they generally support, support with concerns, or do not support the proposed direction. The agency welcomes feedback on specific elements of the plan via a general comments section provided with the submission form.

Comments can be submitted online here.

The updated six-year plan will serve as a guiding document for the management, protection, and potential harvesting of Idaho’s mountain goat populations. A final version will be presented to the Idaho Fish and Game Commission during its July 16–17 meeting in Coeur d’Alene.

Key focus areas in the draft plan include:

  • Mountain goat ecology
  • Harvest management
  • Population monitoring
  • Human-mountain goat interactions
  • Health and disease considerations
  • Statewide management strategies
  • Population Management Unit-level priorities

The Idaho Fish and Game Department says the plan will help ensure long-term sustainability of mountain goat populations while balancing hunting opportunities and habitat stewardship.
