North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Godfread to Lead National Association of Insurance Commissioners

November 28, 2024

North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread will serve as the president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) for 2025, following his role as president-elect in 2024. As NAIC president, Godfread will lead the nation’s chief insurance regulators across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories. His leadership will focus on enhancing regulatory collaboration and promoting competitiveness and accessibility within the insurance industry.

“I am humbled by the trust my colleagues have placed in me to lead the NAIC, an organization with a rich history of promoting consumer protection, strong insurance markets, and ensuring insurance regulation remains at the state level,” said Godfread. “The insurance industry is undergoing a significant transformation driven by new technology, climate risks, and economic shifts. These challenges offer us an opportunity to ensure that the insurance products consumers rely on are both affordable and available when they need them most.”

During his presidency, Godfread’s key priorities will include advocating for the state-based insurance regulatory model, enhancing consumer insurance literacy, and strengthening insurance markets to ensure the availability of affordable products nationwide.

Godfread will lead the NAIC alongside other commissioners from Virginia, Rhode Island, and Utah, who were elected as 2025 officers at the NAIC Fall National Meeting in Denver. His appointment comes at a time when North Dakota has seen several state officials take on leadership roles at the national level. In addition to Godfread, State Superintendent Kirsten Baesler, Public Service Commissioner Julie Fedorchak, and Treasurer Thomas Beadle currently or will soon serve in presidency roles with their respective national associations, highlighting North Dakota’s growing influence on the national stage.

Godfread will officially assume the role of president on January 1, 2025.
