Meta Strikes Multiple AI Deals with Major News Publishers

Meta Platforms Inc., the parent company of Facebook, has entered into a series of commercial AI agreements with prominent news publishers, including USA Today, People Inc., CNN, Fox News, The Daily Caller, Washington Examiner, and Le Monde, the company announced Friday.

The partnerships will allow Meta to provide “real-time” news and updates through its AI chatbot by linking directly to articles and content from participating publishers. Meta said the move is designed to offer users more timely and relevant news, drawn from a broader range of sources.

“When you ask Meta AI news-related questions, you will now receive information and links that draw from more diverse content sources to help you discover timely and relevant content tailored to your interests,” the company said.

The agreements come as Meta seeks to boost engagement with its AI services amid stiff competition from other tech giants, many of which are also investing heavily in artificial intelligence and securing content licensing deals to enhance their offerings.

Meta has faced challenges in its AI rollout, including mixed reviews of its Llama 4 model, while simultaneously committing billions of dollars to AI research and considering budget cuts to its metaverse initiatives.

The company said it plans to continue expanding its publisher partnerships and exploring new AI features. Financial terms of the agreements were not disclosed.
