Governor Gianforte Named Chair of Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus

January 23, 2025

Governor Greg Gianforte has been named chair of the Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus (GSC), a bipartisan coalition of governors committed to protecting and advancing the interests of sportsmen and women across the United States.

“It’s an honor to serve as chair of the Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus,” said Gov. Gianforte. “As we’ve demonstrated in Montana, governors have an important responsibility to protect our way of life. I look forward to working with fellow governors across the nation to safeguard the traditions of sportsmen and women from unnecessary federal overreach.”

The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF), which established the GSC in 2009, works to ensure sound policy and professional fish and wildlife management that benefit hunters, anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts. The caucus fosters collaboration among governors to support and enhance regulations that promote recreational activities such as hunting, angling, shooting, and trapping.

As chair of the GSC, Gov. Gianforte will spearhead efforts to strengthen policy initiatives and improve communication between state leaders. The GSC complements the efforts of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus and the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses, collaborating with key stakeholders who represent diverse regions across the country.

Since taking office, Gov. Gianforte has prioritized the protection of Montana’s outdoor traditions and constitutional rights. Under his leadership, Montana has strengthened Second Amendment protections and safeguarded citizens’ retirement security from Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) investing, which has been criticized for discriminating against industries like firearms manufacturing. Montana currently boasts over 150 firearm and ammunition businesses, the highest per capita in the nation.

Additionally, Gianforte has worked to expand public access to more than 100,000 acres of public lands, establishing new Wildlife Management Areas in the Big Snowy Mountains, Bad Rock Canyon, and along the Yellowstone River, while enhancing recreational opportunities at Mount Haggin and creating a new state park at Somers Beach.

As chair of the Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus, Gianforte aims to continue advocating for policies that protect the nation’s outdoor heritage and ensure future generations can enjoy hunting, fishing, and recreational shooting.
