Forbes Names Stockman Bank Montana’s #1 Best-In-State Bank for 2026

July 20, 2026

Stockman Bank has been named the top bank in Montana on Forbes’ 2026 list of America’s Best-In-State Banks, marking another year at the top of the statewide ranking for Montana’s largest family-owned community bank.

The recognition, released June 17 in partnership with Statista, is based on surveys of thousands of U.S. banking customers as well as publicly available reviews. Institutions are evaluated on customer satisfaction, trust, financial advice, digital services, terms and conditions and customer service, with top-ranked banks averaging more than 635 customer evaluations. The ranking covers institutions operating in 14 states or fewer and excludes online-only banks.

“We are honored to be recognized once again as the #1 bank in Montana on the Forbes list of Best-in-State Banks 2026,” said CEO Bill Coffee. “This award is particularly special as it reflects the trust our customers place in us every day. It is also a testament to the dedication and expertise of our staff, who are committed to putting the needs of their customers and communities first. Our personalized approach to serving our customers, combined with innovative banking technologies, truly sets us apart from other Montana banks.”

The Best-In-State recognition comes on the heels of another Forbes honor for Stockman earlier this year. In April, the bank was named to Forbes’ World’s Best Banks list for the fifth consecutive year, making it the only Montana bank to appear on that global ranking and one of just 72 U.S. banks recognized worldwide.

Founded in 1953, Stockman Bank operates full-service locations across Montana and offers comprehensive banking, wealth management and insurance services. It has remained privately and family-owned throughout its 70-plus year history, with operations exclusively focused on Montana.
