Daines Helps Montanans Recover Nearly $5 Million from Federal Government in 2024

January 4, 2025

U.S. Senator Steve Daines announced that his office facilitated the recovery of nearly $5 million for Montana residents in 2024, assisting constituents in resolving federal government issues and closing hundreds of cases.

“Addressing the needs of Montanans is one of the greatest honors of my life and a primary reason I ran for office,” said Daines. “I’m proud of our dedicated team, whose commitment to constituents has paid off—literally. We’ll always put Montanans first and fight for our great state.”

According to Senator Daines, his team helped recover $4,983,420 for Montanans, with over 90 percent of that total coming from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The breakdown of recovered funds includes:

  • $4,687,576 from the IRS
  • $220,764 from the Social Security Administration (SSA)
  • $38,974 from the Railroad Retirement Board (RRB)
  • $29,106 from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM)
  • $4,348 from Veterans Affairs (VA)
  • $1,372 from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA)
  • $1,280 from the United States Postal Service (USPS)

Beyond financial recoveries, Daines’ office responded to nearly 1,000 casework inquiries, closing 534 cases throughout the year. Nearly one-quarter of these involved issues related to veterans.

Daines’ staff also remained active in the community, attending over 2,000 meetings and events across Montana in 2024, ensuring the Senator’s presence and engagement with constituents.

The efforts highlight Daines’ commitment to addressing federal challenges faced by Montanans and ensuring their concerns are resolved efficiently.
